one heck of a lego score

3 Replies, 3115 Views

i nipped up to my favourite thrift shop after work, as i hadnt been in ages and had some time to kill.

the toy area was overflowing with goodies, and one bag had some vintage tomy. while i was looking at what was there, i spotted some lego tracks and a heap of bricks. at $7NZD, i wasnt leaving it there

got home, and seperated the tomy from the lego. i literally havent even looked at the tomy yet! the lego has taken all of my attention while i cobbled it back together and filled in where parts were missing.

its a 4.5v set, 7722, from 1985. i havent been able to test as no batteries, but the terminals look mint, and its around 90% complete. the batteries go in the red boxcar, and theres a wire that goes from there to the engine, where the motor is.

Wow, what a great find Sun and so cheap too. Don't those train sets go for quite a lot new?

Great score Sun, I've been keeping my eyes on eBay for such sets, but I don't recall ever seeing one in quite that clean a condition. I know these are quite old sets now so are almost a collectors item - so Super the chances of getting one new/sealed is very very low these days Smile

The other thing that seems a bit unusual I think is the tracks themselves, most of what I've seen has blue rails and the grey sleepers, the grey rails tend to be rarer I think, or at least they are here in the UK.

Nice win! Big Grin

cheers, guys.

super, i could sell this for around $130NZD, at a guess. i do need to put in the correct color parts, as all the crazy colors are from where bits were missing. i have had a local collector offer to trade me the missing the tracks for a couple of non-related pieces in the middle, so thats a bonus.

nigel, i think the blue ones are 12v? this grey track has one smooth side and one slotted/teeth side on the curves, while the straights are slotted on both. you are right, for its age its pretty nice. still has all the stickers and they seem to have stayed down pretty well, even the tyres look good, not cracked and perished like the tomy ones end up.
