UK Shipping, I didn't Know...

I really don't get a handling charge for Royal Mail or any DHL expenses, Where does the money go from paying for shipping to the UK? And please forgive me as I don't mean to offend anyone but 20% VAT and another 10% Import Duty and another 12GBP seems preposterous to me. Many, many years ago a small group of protesters made history by dumping 342 chests of tea into a harbor...just saying.

I know Super I think its a total rip-off, the handling charge goes straight to the Royal Mail or whoever the carrier is, they can basically charge what they like. The tax obviously goes to the government. It's annoying to say the least. If you're wondering this combined with the dive in the value of sterling since the brexit vote is the main reason I've virtually stopped buying stuff from Japan, it is just too expensive at the moment

So instead I'm back to eBay(UK) and Lego for now!

But on the bright side if we ever ordered from a European Union country the shipping is significantly cheaper, when I was repairing a motor bike I got lots of bits from German eBay and from Dutch websites. I imagine that now, post brexit things will change,

Shipping cost and Import tax are 2 different things- we don't get the tax here in the States-it's the UK that import into their country that gets taxed.

Don't gloat too much, if Trump has his way you guys are gonna get tariffs on imports from all over the place to make USA made goods more competable

Now here is a question that just comes to mind...a lot of folks who travel on Airplanes for long periods of time now ship their luggage ahead to avoid the hassle and cost of bringing them on the plane, waiting at Baggage Claim and being limited to what and the amount they can bring. If you were to do this with your own luggage would you still have to pay Import Tax and Fees shipping this back to the UK?
