New Star Wars Rapit & Turntable

Hmmm, although nice looking and coming in the 'new' EVA style box it is a little disappointing that the illustrations on the side are just 'stickers' - very 'fisher-price'
I would have expected more of Tomy and that they would have properly tampo printed sides rather than just stickers. I mean on that basis we could probably make our own stickers and modify a 'normal' Rapi:t instead of buying these ones. This is definitely a retro-step backward, even the 'Peach' was tampo printed... I wouldn't think they will last that long in the sticky hands of 'little ones', still I suppose it will make pristine ones rarer and collectible in no time flat lol! One other thing I notice is the cars are marked '1', '2' and '6', does that make you think maybe there may be a 3 car expansion set at some point?!?

Because of the stickers and Graphics there are none of those neat oval Rapit windows either. My first thought was to buy a second one and remove the stickers for an all black Rapit but that wouldn't look good without the windows. I was expecting the stickers as it would probably be hard to paint those type of graphics but I was still hoping for paint. Mine shipped yesterday. Not really, look at the quality of pain jobs on Hot Wheels cars and even the Shorty B's that I collect, if they can do it on those - or the EVA 500 for that matter in both Plarail and Advance why not the Star Wars models? The only thing that makes sense is they've had to pay so much for the licence to make the darn things that they've scrimped and scraped to save pennies here and there to get a profit. Personally I'd rather have paid another 500 yen for a properly printed and quality model. Maybe they should have a mass market version with the stickers and a 'collectors' model at a slightly higher price with real windows (ideally with glazing) and printing instead. YOU LISTENING TOMY!!!???

I agree, paint would have been better, but it still should be a nice addition to the Rapit collection. Hoping to get the silver and maybe gold ones as well soon.
@Nigels
I wasn't sure if they could replicate photo quality images of the actors with paint as they can with stickers but then again I have no idea of what the processes are. Also I assume that the real train has see through vinyl wrap where the windows are where you can see out but on the outside you can't see in or the windows. Don't know how they would replicate that without omitting the windows on the plastic again. Unless they could just emboss the oval windows and still paint over them. Hehe, another one hooked on the Rapi:t (08-04-2016, 10:11 PM)Super Wrote: @Nigels I think they could, if they had embossed windows and used transfers rather than stickers that would work. Maybe I'll have a go at making some custom transfers and see what happens
