Super look @ this!!! While I was exploring a way to add weight to the front end I unscrewed this screw and found a way to adjust the height of the smokestack!!
I then hacksawed a standard weight in half to fit in the side spaces, and added a tall brass washer to even out the height, with a square bolt to cover it, and a longer screw to lock it into place....it's much heavier now, and feels solid and not so cheap, and looks way better with the tall smokestack don't you think??

And...my very last set of gold siderods!!Smile

Nice mod to the smokestack, you should let Tomy know how to do it lol!

It's ridiculous...regardless of adding the weights, all Tomy would have to do is use a 1/4 inch plastic spacer in that gap with a 1/4 inch longer screw!! It just seems lazy.

Excellent discovery and mod Muddy. Does the new smokestack height clear going through a bridge riser?

Nice! Only a minor edit, but definitely better than the original. However, I would've changed the siderods to either silver or a dark iron colour to make them look better.
Yes Super, the height can be set to custom...the height shown clears everything, but it could be set even taller.

Thats a neat feature you have discovered Muddy. It does make the engine look a bit better and allows for someone with a one level layout or multi-leveled layouts with shimmed risers to even give it a better look with the taller stack. Now, if you could only find a screw under there that would make the cow catcher better.....Big Grin

Yes the cowcatchers height is silly and more like a "cow inpailer" lol...also very lame that the siderods don't extend through the cowcatcher like the originals do...the generic siderods just add to its overall cheapened appearance. Sad

LOL...Cow impalers

I believe they stopped making the longer side rods because they are easily pulled out and flay around and possibly poke a child in the eye if held. Makes sense if that was their reason. Personally I prefer the look of the longer ones for all trains especially the steamers. If they have to use these type side rods I prefer they used the newer regular side rods with the added upper part that came with the latest release of Plarail Gordon.

Just think of the damage those cow impaller's will do to the PlaKids if they get too close to the line or there's a derailment in a station would be carnage lol! Smile
