Hurrah...The C-58-1 Kyoto Railway Museum Train has arrived

Hurrah, my C-58-1 Kyoto Railway Museum Steam Train has arrived and what a beauty she is.

The detailing is great with more than the C-58-239 SL Ginga Train released in 2015 (set comparison pictures). It looks like they used the same basic mold except for a fem added details. There are gold railings along the boiler on both sides of the museum release. The entire front uses a different mold with new drumhead detail and drumhead bracket, smokebox door is different along with only a single headlight on the cross pipe with gold banding (don't know what that pipe is called) It also has a nice white stripe on the sides of the engine that extends to around the tender.

Speaking of tenders, they are similar with what I found to be a surprise. Similar in that they are exactly the same all around including a shoveling shute for the boiler operator but the similarity ends in the differences in the top. While I thought the Sl Ginga's tender was really neat when I received it, the new C-58-1 Museums Trains tender top is even more detailed. The surprise came when I went to replace the white couplings with more appropriate black ones. I remove two screws from the bottom of both tenders and was trying to pull the wheels and chassis off like I have done numerous times before but I couldn't pull them off. The trick turned out to be that nothing was removed from the bottom, rather the whole guts and top of the tender slid out of the sides from the top. Not sure why the change from the old one screw in the middle holding the chassis and wheels up but as you can see in the picture below its a strange configuration when you are used to another way.

Both these have the new Tomy Flat Drives using one AA battery that I am not that sure about yet. The new drives run smooth but I think a bit noisier than the old motor units and the on/off switches seem to be somewhat tight to operate.

All in all, a very beautiful addition to our large collection of steamers. The box is pretty neat with an aerial rendered view of the museum with its round house..
