Tomy Knapford Station - Where are they?

6 Replies, 10782 Views

Hey everyone at BluePlasticTracks!

Recently I've been looking on sites such as Jauce (I find it quite hard to search for things on Jauce), TradeMe and Ebay, but have not found a Tomy Knapford station! I haven't been able to locate one at all, and think it would be an awesome destination to add to my Tomy Thomas collection that I started at about 2-3 years old! Big Grin
Do any of you have any tips for finding items like Knapford station and Tomy Thomas items in general?

Definitely eBay UK seems to have more of them come up from what I have seen. I was able to secure one from Nigels. We worked things out and got it shipped from the UK to US. Shipping was a bit pricey but there were several other things in the shipment so it evened out. Hope you find one, it is indeed a really cool feature.

they come up, but not often on trademe. i thought i got one from a weekend market, to find i only got parts. missing a few bits, darnit

trackmaster also released a version that generally sells for high prices. i was lucky and scored one on clearance in aussie a few years ago.

I've acquired 3 Tomy Knapford Station "halves" on TradeMe late last year through separate lots. Two of those halves (making a complete) station were from a bulk lot, and the third halve was from a lot that was an (almost) complete Thomas Mega Set.

I got the Thomas Mega Set for a good price because the seller just listed it as a picture of the box holding the pieces and I was able to tell from the photo that it was the Mega Set and took a risk that it's contents would prove worthwhile, which it did.

It's worth noting that the smaller Knapford station (i.e. only a single halve) that comes in a set like that is a bit different than the full version - it has signs for all 4 platforms, so if you tried to combine it with another smaller station you wouldn't have a true complete Knapford station because your two signs for each platform would not fit on the same actual platform due to the way each piece is shaped. The signs are sticker though, so if you were super patient and careful you could remove the stickers and reglue them on the right pieces to have a full station.

For me, all 3 halves had the bottoms snapped off or reglued on many of the sign pieces. I was able to use a combination of all the pieces to create a single Knapford station that only has two sign pieces with a broken bit. I tried gluing them back together but they just snap off again when you try to pull it apart again - the base grips the sign pieces too tight so the stress on that part is pretty high, it doesn't take much to break them. Thankfully even with two broken bits it remains pretty stable.

The roof pieces are a little dulled, and the bases a tiny bit yellowed but after a good clean it all looks pretty good. And the trains make a fantastic sound when running through the station.

I think if you are patient you'll see some more crop up on TradeMe. If you do manage to find one then be warned: while it's a cool setup you do need a lot of space and track to accomodate it.
I've been looking for a knapford station for Tony and last I looked in the us eBay they were going from $180 to $400 for a unopened one.

I thought about making my own knapford station buy purchasing afew of the Tony clear tunnel pieces and fit them together like 2 deep and 3 or 4 wide but cut the tunnels down about an inch or so on both sides with my bandsaw and glue/weld the platforms together. So they no longer complete the tunnel and glue the clear roofs together so you can get the ribbed roof and paint green trusses and the outer ceiling frame. Then I would get 4 or 8 stop tracks and install them inside the track in the former tunnels, and rig up a control setup on the side using acouple welsworth stations, so that I could have a road pull up to side. For example I think it would be neat to have Bertie do laps looking like hes picking up/dropping off passengers. I think it would be a neat project that I may try in the future.
