Tokyo Disneyland didn't open until 1983 so it probably didn't have anything to do with that. I wonder if the white Tomy logo might also help in narrowing it down. We use to have a post here somewhere that showed a link to the evolution of the Tomy logo and the years it was used but I can't remember who posted it and I find it now.

Apparently there was at least 2 sets released, yours being number one and this number 2 set...

What a weird box?! The contents are different but the box art is all the same images and grafic composition as the no.1 box art, except that Huey, Dewey, and Louey have been replaced by some crazy blue abstract elephant and Idk what that other blue thing is? (Hippo?)...very odd choice for a redesign..Thanks SuperSmile I'm assuming it's still from the 70's?

According to this site the rounded Tomy logo was in use from 1979-2003 (shows various other logos as well):
http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/Tomy
The "Museum of Plarail" site shows a multitude of older items:

Various vintage catalog scans can be found here:
http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~akeda/DOLL/f...arogu2.htm
None of the pages shown contain either Disney set, however some do show the train (1983-1989) and accessories from the no. 2 set (1985-86) as separate sale items.
So it appears these sets are from the mid-80s.

Thats the Logo link I was looking for, Thanks Brtrainz and thanks for the links to the neat sites for older sets, very interesting.
Thanks to our very own Brtrainz, I have the No. 2 set on the way. What a cool set and I was able to work out an awesome deal with him. Can't wait for this one to arrive. Big Grin
