Ripley's T'nA repair shop

8 Replies, 12079 Views

I would like to thank ripley802 for the magnificent job of fixing our Japanese T'nA Percy for us!! It was fried from battery acid and was a messSad I had tried to fix it a couple times but had given up, until Rip came along to BPT...His enthusiasm and intrest in the T'nA line, and general skills and motivation became evident as his posts revealed a real passion and dedication and love for fixing these trains. I have dealt with him through eBay where I was first impressed with his honesty and integrity, so I packed up Percy and shipped him off for repairs from the T'nAmaster himself..Smile
I had planned to shoot a video first, then BPT post, but I will have to post the T'nA Percy comparison video tomorrow eve...until then though... THANK YOU ANDREW!!
Play nice & have fun!!Smile

Wow. Thanks so much Muddy. I am re-typing this as I had a whole page of text and clicked the hyper link button and my browser closed (iPad), so all of what I had typed is gone. Undecided

Anyway... It is true these trains for me are amazing. The complexity and design seem to send them over the top. I love the challenge of fixing these. So far I have all of them except the "American Accent" James and have repaired various types of issues, from corroded battery terminals, to broken wires, to just general, "it doesn't work" issues.

Right now I have probably 30 or more TnA engines that are in various stages of repair. Some are ready to go and will be listed soon, some need some TLC, and well some are too far gone and will be for parts.

If anyone has any questions or needs help with anything, please let me know and I will do my best to help out. I welcome the challenge to fix/repair these or maybe purchase for parts.

The one thing I am in need of is the custom battery terminals that apparently are only in the TNA and a few others like the real steal Thomas, etc... Here is a link to where I have found them, but cannot seem to get them ordered. They apparently were made for a customer and cannot be sold to me is what I am getting from my communications with them. I will keep trying through..

Lint to BPT thread discussing the terminals:

Thanks again for the kind words and I review. I am glad I was able to get Percy back up and going for you and he arrived safely back to your door.

I agree, Ripley802 is the TnA wizard and we are so proud to have him here at BPT. Bet there aren't too many self taught repair experts in the world that can fix these complicated little things.

Its funny but I get a chuckle of a possible sign outside his door "The TnA Shop" or "The TnA Repair Shop" as around here that might be considered a type of gentleman's club or plastic surgeon Big Grin

First, Ucwepn fixes engines and gives them detail, motor swaps, lighting and not-so-simple mods, and now Ripley does this with the Talk 'n' Action engines!

Thanks so much Super. Since finding this site I have been addicted. My collection has evolved and is still growing. I have learned so much from here and hope to keep on keeping on. Big Grin

As for the repair shop, if it were up to me and the salary was there, then it would be a done deal, but the wife probably would have some reservations. I mean I did take over half the basement, oh and the laundry room with trains and things. Guess it is time for a bigger house..Big Grin

I haven't modified any as of yet, but maybe there is an opertunity to do a couple basic things, since I have several that may not be fully repairable in their condition.

Well after repairing the TnA Japanese version Percy for Muddy I got to thinking about the two I had. I managed to get one back up and going. This one worked fine had great battery terminals, etc.. But the Pressure switch that goes over the track would not cause the actions. I adjusted the gap on the switch but still no luck. I soldered one on from a broken Thomas and all is well now. I have not had this issue much yet, but maybe o can find a replacement switch that would work.

How many rooms do ya have in your house? I'm rich compared to any of my real life friends, and I don't have much room in my house for the train stuff. I think the main problem may be having a big family tho. My older brother, and both my parents need room, too. I WOULD use the garage, if it wasn't prone to flooding during hurricanes due to having a downwards slanted driveway, and if we didn't have two cars.

I really shouldn't be complaining about the life I have tho. I have too much stuff already!
