Well, after much debate I decided to finally try the Japan Auctions. I will post my expierence in another thread in case anyone is thinking of doing so and maybe has some questions still or just wants to hear my thoughts. This thread though is for the trains. Christmas has come and gone this year, but here was my Presents.. Big Grin

Here is the box. Was HUGE...

And yes this is both TnA Henry and Gordon:

So condition varies. Henry defiantly needs some work. He has battery corrosion. Gordon came on fine but no sound. I tested a Percy and Thomas and both worked and spoke Japaneese. That was great as I did not have these with that "accent" yet. There was also a Real Steam Talking Thomas but in looking at it someone gutted the engine portion. I may be able to steal some parts from and American one..

Hope you enjoy, I know I will. And will be posting some more as I get them cleaned up and going. I think I have close to 20+ of the TnA engines. Big Grin

These things are just so cool and fun to repair..

It actually doesn't have a date, but looks older to me.

You really are going mad for the T&A Mr Ripley, you'll have the market cornered at this rate then be able to sell them on at a massive profit lol!!

So what are you going to do with all the T&A Thomas/Percy's? Have you thought about trying to fit a different set of wheels/body on the chassis to make a new unique T&A loco?
Happily collecting things all my life... Big Grin

I am thinking of going through each of them first to get them up and going. I already have a few from the other lot that you shipped over that are running. My thought is to maybe sell a few of them and see what they bring. I will be keeping at least one of each accent. The only one left I need is the American accent James I believe.

Custom may be an option. Although there may not be a ton that can be done to them. They are pretty cool by themselves.

Gordon is now running and Talking.. Big Grin

He has some issues:
- speaker was DOA. Actually when I was desolidering the wires the whole speaker board came off. Luckily I had a spare from a TnA James.
- drive cog gear was cracked. I replaced the wheels with a different set that had the same size gear. Well apparently the gear is at a different position for these. It fit together but the ativation mechanism would get stuck. Upon looking further it would seem that it was in a bind. I super glued the original and got it out back in.
-new tires as the old ones were cracked and broken.
- vinegar treatment and the light distilled water to clean off a tiny bit of corrosion on one terminal.
- cleaned up the exterior and interior with a Clorox wipe.

He seems to run fine now. Up next is Henry. I have him completely disassembled, as all 6 of the terminals were corroded. I was able to clean a few up with white vinegar and will replace the others with a few spares. Stay tuned...

Presumably it's the one from the Thomas and Freight Cars set, since he has other components of that set in the picture as well (green flat cars, crane, etc.)

Thanks Chrisjo. That's what I was thinking as well. Could not think of the name of that set though.
