"Show Us What You Bought"

xD
I will get things started with this recent arrival...

I have to admit that I wasn't much interested in buying one of these somewhat rare Virgin trains. You see, I thought they were cheap looking and that all the details were stickers. I thought the whole front and rear ends was one sticker including the windshields. I thought the sides, windows and logos were stickers too.

I found this one listed a price I just couldn't pass up. Much to my surprise, when I received the train, there is absolutely no stickers anywhere. It is all painted which made me happy. And the windshields are really a translucent, tinted plastic which I was very surprised and happy to see as a light mod would look great in this cab. I would have been more thrilled if they had added just a bit of detail like, cut out windows instead of paint and headlights & grille that were 3D molded into the body as painted ones are flat, just don't look right and added to my sense of cheapness. All in all its not bad and a good runner. Does anyone know if this train was a limited edition? Did it come in a set or by itself? Would like to know a bit more about these if anyone has info or a link.

Nice Big Grin im jealous
It was sold on its own in the Tomica World series primarily in the U.K., It technically wasnt a limited edition. It has no stickers because it is older when Tomy didn't use many stickers for decoration, they only used stickers for tiny details on the trains.

Here are a few of my recent purchases that I was really excited about.

Thanks for the info on The Virgin Train. I didn't realize it was so old. Looked on the bottom, Tomy 1989 made in Thailand. I am embarrassed as I had no idea that this was a real train company. I thought it was a magazine like Playboy or something and this Tomy train was just a promotional item [Image: embarrassed-smile-smiley-emoticon.gif] Now that I just said that out loud it sounds pretty stupid doesn't it. Geesh Super, why would an adult magazine use a kids toy for a promotional item

That all being said, after I watched Virgin Trains commercial maybe I wasn't wrong after all. Can you figure out the part with the symbolism?

Thats quite the haul Gerisplarail1.

I wish I had known about Yahoo Japan a while ago as I bought that whole snowblower set (not cheap) just to get the dummy diesel DE 10 1700 and sold the new set without it. I have seen several of the diesels by themselves listed in Japan. But come to think of it after Fees and double shipping it may not have amounted to much of a savings. It is a nice set though, do you have to chase those little snow balls around your hardwood floors? Big Grin Thanks for sharing your pictures.
Oh I saw your auction for that on ebay I thought it was strange to buy the set just for that. haha anyway not all of that was from Japan auctions but I do love Japan auctions.
picked these 3 up today... $38NZD each. so expensive!

Nice collection Sunhuntin

I have always had a soft spot for the wood fired steam engines. They have great lines and some very ornate. Makes me think of the old wild west so Ferdinand looks great even with the mud. Sure wish Plarail would consider a real wood burner with the big bulbas smoke funnel. Thanks for sharing your new finds.
thanks, super. agreed. id love tomy to make a proper western engine with cow catcher and, yes, huge funnel! ferdinand is a great looking engine, despite the mud.

thanks for the detailed photos of the virgin train. ive known about it for years, but never picked one up for some reason. your pics might just convince me. lol.
