New eBay lot won, help identifying these..

8 Replies, 9645 Views

Hello all. Well I was debating on bidding on these the other day as the shipping was a bit pricey, but I lost another lot so I decided to go for them. I got the lot for $14.99 and no other bidders. The seller had several other Japanese items available, so they maybe lived there or had relatives, etc.. I was going to go through and try and research each one, but I figured you guys probably know just from looking at them. I have really only purchased Thomas related Tomy trains, so these are new to me. Here they are:

From the first photo, you have the following train:

The orange one (the one way at the back) is JR Series 165 Express Train
The second last one from the back is most likely Japan Freight Railway EF66 Electric Locomotive
The third one from the back is Shinkansen Bullet JR Series E4 Max
the red locomotive is EF510 Red Thunder.

Good find btw. I didn't even see that posting. Not that I want it anyway but still great deal considering most brand new ones charge around $15-20 US.
What he said (in terms of identification that is) Big Grin

Nice win Mr Ripley, btw - I just received my 'box of bits' shipment so go have a look at that thread I've added pics as requested. Some real lovely finds in there Smile
Happily collecting things all my life... Big Grin

Very nice collection of trains and so cheap too. They look to be in good condition especially the 2 Shinkanses because the white has a tendency to discolor easily with the UV rays of the sun. .

I have used Hobby Search a lot when researching or trying to figure out what a particular train is and/or its product number. I just star scrolling through their Plarail Trains section until I match what I am looking for. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/998/2/1

Thanks super. Yeah that was my next step. I appreciate the help though @leelandvictory2. I am pretty excited since this a new part of the collection. I am impressed but the speed of them too. They seem pretty snappy given the age. I am hoping to win some more in the future. Thanks.

most trains uses the same style of motor. What I do (if you have a lot of experience), you can harvest a brand new motor off a brand new train that cost way less and less valuable.

Yeah. I had found the motors in a lot of 5 or 10 which seem to do pretty well. Maybe these were just less used and not packed full of hair, dust, etc... Thanks.

That was a good deal - the black colour hopper wagon is quite a rare model.
There are quite a few listed on Jauce, but they generally seem to be fetching "collectors prices" rather than the more usual bargain basement prices that we are accustomed to paying for our models.

Really? That's awesome. I will hang on to that one and check it out. Thanks for the information. I appreciate it.
