I was unfortunate enough to not get any batch 1 Genesis coaches upon release and never even pre-ordered any from batch 2, as I was hopping that we would get a re-run of batch 1 eventually, however after Hattons closed down those dreams were crushed.... Last year I managed to get a pair of unlit LMS coaches(a six wheel brake third and a 4 wheel ex 6 wheel composite lavatory(1st/3rd)) plus a set of 5 much sought after SECR maroon coaches, lit!(a 6 wheel full brake and the pack of four(including the 4 wheel brake third, 4 wheel composite(1st/2nd), 6 wheel third and the 6 wheel brake third)), these SECR coaches needed some repairs, but I am happy to have them! Anyway today's topic is related to batch 2. From batch 2 I was especially interested in the GER brown, and when Rails of Sheffield, who now not only own the Hattons brand, but also fulfilled the Genesis batch 2 pre-orders, had listed the remaining stock of batch 2, I and many others were eager to buy them and did I get any GER coaches? No... absolutely not .... They sold out in like 8 hours.... Oh well I'm SuRe I'll Have JuSt SOOOOOOOOO much fun paying like 100 pounds each second hand!
Anyway I wasn't about to let that stop me getting any, and so I went for my second favorite set, the LSWR wartime lined salmon and brown and I didn't just get one or two coaches, I got 5 6 wheel coaches, perfect for recreating one of the later LSWR suburban sets!
The LSWR set is well known for having some mistakes in the final release and as you can see the coach livery is said to be brown and umber which it just isn't! also A MASIVE issue with the final release was the complete mix-up of the first class and second class coaches as the factory put these coaches in the boxes by the product codes, however the descriptions, used by Rails to distribute the coaches were swapped, as such H4-6F-1301 was labeled as being the 2nd and H4-6S-1301 was labeled as being the first.
There are also 2 more mistakes, as on one side of the brakes the smoking sign is correctly placed on the end compartment, while on the other it's depicted on the center compartment and as per the concept art, the center compartment of the 6 wheel second is labeled as being a luggage compartment which it quite obviously isn't!
I also have an issue with one the footboards on the luggage first as it on of the holders wasn't secured properly at the factory and has now come loose causing the sled to jam up. This is something I am planning to fix tomorrow with a bit of glue, like I did n my SECR full third!
Now all I need is a suitable LSWR locomotive....
