Probably the biggest difference is that I was into it in the early 60's. I remember I would save up money from my Paper Route and ride my bike 4 miles to the only Hobby Shop around to look at and possibly buy new things and tracks. This was the only way to see what was available besides magazines which I only read when I saw them in stores because I didn't want to spend the little money I had on them. Something I was waiting to buy was the Ford Mustang and clearly remember riding my bike to the Hobby Store to buy it. They came individually in a clear plastic case and cost around $4.00 at the time which was a lot back then. Rode my bike all the way back home and it didn't work. Road all the way back the next day and the Mom and Pop owners would not take it back or exchange it. Rode back home told my Dad and he took me back and got them to exchange it. From then on I was afraid to go back.
The biggest difference I could see later between the original Aurora and before the AFX was the way the Tracks connected. Original Aurora tracks connected by inserting steel pins (2 on each end) and a Lead U shaped connector (1 on each end). Didn't the AFX tracks just push together like the Tomy Road pieces of today without any additions of pins and connectors?
