Been able to fix the converted Salty's DU using my Blu Tack idea, and the wheelslip/vibration problem is now gone. Although the driven wheelset still moves up and down a bit and he still free wheels poorly, it's better than before and no longer disengages (even on stop/go tracks). Just need to make room for a AA and that should be it.
Also test fitted the Talking DU and battery truck in Ivor, and it worked perfectly save for the wire coupling being hard to fit (due to Ivor's rear tab for the shell). Photos added to post no. 166 on CM&E thread.
Unscrewed and removed the rear end to file the two ridges near the button until a AA could fit, and then repeated the process for the button itself before gluing it into place. Now, he'll no longer have to use a AAA with an extended terminal. I don't plan to "hide" the fact he was a Talking version, so the seam will be left intact to avoid a disastrous patching attempt.
