there are plarail japanese trains on jauce in gold and silver, so it wouldnt have taken much to make thomas the same.
id love to buy a few of the japanese ones, but the ones ive seen have been loose, and it wouldnt take much to damage the finish. even my metallic clarabel has a scratch or something on her face, and she was sealed in the box.
