Yeeeaaah…. It may just be me but I quit using Amazon marketplace a few years ago because of the increasingly outrageous prices and sketchy service. I noticed a similar situation from third party sellers on Walmart dot com. It’s not even price gouging in the traditional sense but an attitude of just stick an insane price on something and see if it will sell. Yes, likewise with some sellers on eBay, although it seems like a more competitive environment there.

I wish I knew what prompted this sort of thing. Greed alone probably isn’t an adequate explanation. Perhaps it’s a person who promised to sell stuff that they don’t really want to sell. Perhaps it’s an attempt to create an impression of market scarcity, where other sellers will see it and attempt to follow. I don’t know what the thought process is here but I’m intrigued by it because it doesn’t seem like a serious attempt to move merchandise.
