My go to battery has been the Energizer Ultimate Lithium's for several years now for these trains. I bought a hundred of them packaged then and love them. I find the trains run faster and hold the 1.5v's much longer with them. I have a re-charger that does Alkaline, Ni-Mh and Ni-Cd in C, AAA, AA, D and even 9 volt. They say you can re-charge non-rechargables from 5 to 10 times. I use them in things that use batteries that I don't care about or things that use up batterys fast.
