A little success.. 
. This gear now I have a replacement for. As you can see the teeth are a bit different, but it seems to work. I am still playing with the placement on the shaft to make sure it is in the right location and runs smooth, but first tests are good. Here are a few shots of the old (white) gear and the new replacement. The others are still en-route from China.
