The gear I am thinking is cracked is the one on the axel. An easy test is to remove the battery then turn on the engine switch. If the wheels move freely then the gear is probably cracked.

There are various sizes out there for these but a common one I have found is 14t (teeth), 2.5mm (shaft diameter), and 5mm (thickness). It seems like there are not as many on eBay as when I looked before but these look similar.
