Yeah, finishing the basement will be a later phase for us, no rush at the moment.

I think that its better to start from scratch in a basement. There is so much shoddy DIY basements that aren't done right and behind the wall is moisture and mold that you don't see. Plus there is dangerous electrical work that could cost you your home or worse when it catches fire. No its better to be able to see what the basement looks like bare to see where there may be existing water problems. Then you can fix them properly plus its fun to design the footprint for the basement specifically designed for your tastes.
