I had bought some of those quarter ounce train weights on your suggestion and the square ones fit perfect for converting a "C" size battery train to a "AA" size. Takes up the spare room and adds the proper counter weight...brilliant find. I have also quite the collection of different sized "key-ways" (for gears or pulleys) from my local home center/hardware. They are square stock steel and and come in various short length but can also be cut to any needed length. With all the different thicknesses they can fit into the smallest nooks and crannies of the engine shell or chassis. I also have used chrome shelf pins that are round stock and are similare to the round stock weights found in some Thomas and other engines.
