Yeah there are two distinct model/years for the remotes it seems. The 2006 has a polished, smooth, shiney surface where as the 2009 has a sort of matte rough finish.
I have not gone though any of them yet to test but would like to see what I can get going if possible. I too had a couple thought with using the battery car maybe to power some LED's or maybe give a motor some boost.
