What kind of battery did that use to be? Was it a generic? Thats some extreme damage.

I can only assume a Japanese brand. Unfortunately these are notorious for having corrosion damage on the terminals, likely due to these batteries being under the cover of the rear tender/trailing car. Each train takes the 3 batteries so I think when people stored them they would just see the one and remove it. What is very odd, you can litterly not find replacement terminals for these. I have looked everywhere..
