from my limited experience, try and buy trains with the bigger c battery, the newer aa battery trains are a tad light at the front. i think the former run better, pull more and are less prone to derailment but then this is just from the couple i own and a bit of previous experience! haha.

Buying second hand off eBay is a cheap way to build up track although you do have to weed out a small amount of stuff that does fit well for some reason, either too loose or too tight a fit due to use/abuse. I got a couple of largish sets that had been hanging around on eBay for some time, made an offer, got a good deal even though there were a few items i didn't really need or want in each.

nb: check out the seller's eBay rating of course, don't buy if in doubt. I'm not quite so keen on buying second hand trucks.

ps: do remember plarail advance is a completely different animal as they are very much smaller than the 'normal' trains.
