one thing i have found is the connectors on the tomy road can get to be quite brittle, and ive actually snapped a few off when putting them together or taking them apart. the trackmaster road connectors are a lot thicker and easier to put together.

another thing to consider are the risers. i dont think trackmaster ever made a sloped road piece, so their track wouldnt be designed with the old white tomy risers in mind, which would limit your build somewhat. though looking at wepsn video, the yellow track risers work. how secure they are, im not sure. not something i ever thought of trying.

at the end of the day, buying used is fairly safe. they are kids toys, so for your own peace of mind, give them a quick soak in a sink of warm water and disinfectant, but its highly unlikely theyve been anywhere truly awful.
most of my collection is used, bought from various online auctions, local thrift shops and weekend markets etc. none of if has killed me yet, and none of its been washed either, except the stuff that has been scribbled on.

For engines, I pick out fluff and grime from the insides with a screwdriver or plastic toothpick, and for track I scrub them under water. Sometimes I'll use a lens cleaning wipe for things with no stickers. Does the latter disinfect things too? I wouldn't know.

EDIT: I'm aware there are no Trackmaster Road slopes, so I would only use it on the ground levels. Maybe I'd have to try Ucwepn's method, if he can offer some pictures or a video on just what he did. If not, I might just file down a few bits off of a TOMY and a HiT Toy and put some blutack underneath. It really does work well with the tracks that way.
