The bottom line here is don't try anything until you talk with your parents first. I would think the best way (and safest) would be to keep an eye out on Ebay for cheap, used ones or perhaps non-working trains that you can swap parts with. Or perhaps visiting any local Thrift stores or Yard Sales in your area may bag you something cheap and save on shipping.
