Great tip. I too expierence this. Unfortunately for me, I had taken the motor completely out, swapped in a new one, the decided to give it a try with a 3v test pack I made (2 X AA, made from an old real steam Annie battery pack). It worked fine so now I test them in place as you mentioned. Very odd that his happens but definately welcomed over replacing the motor.
