Maybe Ucwepn can come along and advise you on this as he is the expert.
My 2 cents would be that just by looking at your pictures its looks like Ucwepn has removed more of the tab.
Because of the Trackmaster 2's big knobby tires they have less traction on the Tomy blue and original Trackmaster tracks.
Trackmaster 2 doesn't have adequate weights in them to give them more traction.
Could there be shavings and plastic dust now gummed up in the gears? If the gears are greased I would imagine some would stick.
Have you seen all of Ucwepn's video's addressing the Trackmaster 2? There may be more but here are a couple...
