Hello everyone
Arrrg ye tale 'o weary conquest tis be...
When first I joined BPT Christmas Eve of 2014, I did so in hopes of gathering more information from a global community of fellow collectors and experts with extended knowledge and experiences in the feild, in an effort to "Collect Them All" with my son Tully, as Fisher Price had tempted us to do some 4 years earlier...and my VERY FIRST post was to ask everyone about the existence of MONTY?
I had been after him since 2010 when he failed to appear on the Target shelves...
We waited all summer...we kept checking Target, Walmart, Sears, Khols, Kmart...ToysRus, Amazon, eBay, online mom & pop retailers...
NOTHING, NADA, ZILTCH!!!!
"Dad why can't we find Monty?",
2011...
2012...
2013...
2014...
So, after conferring here with you all on BPT and finally wearing out my resources, I had finally come to the conclusion that Monty was just a sick joke being played by Fisher Price and that he was never actually released.( Given FP's history that was an acceptable guess) I had finally accepted this to be and had finally stopped looking...
THEN, Toy Train Trackmaster Village unboxed one on YouTube!! At first I though it could only be maybe the one from the FP stock marketing photo shoot, but they thanked ToyTrainsFan for helping them "find" Monty...
I immediatly contacted them both, but neither replied.
I took Super's advice and tried a second time sending them pictures of our collection in hopes to articulate my seriousness and commitment...
NOTHING...( ToyTrainsFan has since replied )
So much for RESPECT among collectors
At that point, I was staring at Monty with only myself for help.
I scrutinized the Monty unboxing and found title to uploads in english and POLISH...
I then isolated on Poland. I reached out through Facebook and found a connection through a friend of a distant relative through marriage, and was able to dig out of the frozen snow, 3 BNIB Monty's that FISHER PRICE HAD INTENTIONALLY HIDDEN in the most obscure places in a country literally as far away from North America in either directions as could be!!
"COLLECT THEM ALL"!?!? Impossible if you are denied the opportunity!!!
This WAS a deliberate attempt by FP distribution to thwart any real chance of it..
I would suspect the rest to be in the Chech Rep., Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Greenland...as for Poland, that used one on eBay was the last nugget popped from the vein...Unless someone wants to grab their own shovel, it's most likely gonna be another 5 years if we ever see the likes of Monty again!!
To put this into perspective:
Alfie is (lol was) the rarest most expensive character to find!
Hundreds of serious collectors have Alfie though..
None but a few have Monty...in terms of rarity Monty is 100X rarer than Alfie.
It was my absolute pleasure to help you Brian You're a great guy and mutual respect and admiration is greatly reciprocated
