Film would probably be the way to go to change the colour, although you could replace the LED that would depend upon getting the right type, size, etc... That's a bit of a minefield these days as there are so many different types on the market 
Although I'm surprised they haven't included sound I can understand why as it's probably very difficult to fit it all into the body of the loco - maybe you'll get sound if they ever do a Gordon real steam lol!
Personally tho' I doubt I'll buy one, even if I could get one, purely because it won't run right on the older track without probably quite a bit of remedial work.
