Where did your love of trains come from ?

Chris...you actually worked on the Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) train?

I really wasn't much into trains at all until my Grandson came along. My childhood mostly revolved around sports and HO cars which changed to sports and real cars when I got older. My only child is a daughter so no train interest their until her son (my Grandson) came along and everything took off from their.

Hi yes i did ! around 2005 i passed through GNERS training at York in Yorkshire in the North of England and worked on board from Leeds to Kings Cross in London.

i honestly dont know! no one in my family has any interest or other connection to trains. my friend blair, he basically has either coal or diesel in his veins from several generations back, on both sides!
i do remember seeing a tomy train set in a local department store, either 89 or 90, and begging mum for it. shockingly, she actually got me one and i loved it! remember many happy playtimes. from there, i picked up second hand pieces at various thrift stores, yard sales and school gala days. it grew from there to where i am now.
the local model railway club held shows and open days, and now and then i would convince dad to take me, amazed by the trains which didnt run on batteries! also by seeing a grown man who also had a tomy set up, which convinced me i didnt need to get too old for tomy.
4 years ago, i joined that same model railway club, quickly developed a rivalry with that grown man [hey, lets combine collections for the next show! ummm... how bout we dont?! he has since quit for other reasons.] since joining, i havent looked back, designing different layouts as often as possible. even got into HO and some N scale, buying mostly canadian roadnames.

as for real trains, ive always loved them and spent my teen years across the road from a shunting yard, where locos would come in day and night. until the late 80s, there was a railways workshop down the road, but it has since been demolished. we did 2 steam train excursions when i was young. one went a few hours north and back, and the other was the crunchie bar train. cant remember where it went.
