I made a video today for Trackmaster revolution talking Thomas and I gave my ultra dash 3v Spencer a run on the other track. He is a bit fast haha. it will be up in about an hour from this post.

Cool, thanks for all the replies and videos. it sounds like the tomy/plarail out of japan are better quality than the fisher price trains at walmart. I just bought a chuggington brewster for my son on line and excited to see the potential quality. im not going to bother getting the new trains and converting the wheels, just make sure im buying the right thing

I have some older Thomas trains that I picked up at a kids consignment sale, including a (i think) bumble bee james. I'd like to do a 'tune up' and mabe some modifications. im not in any rush at this point, but any advice or suggestions (usually) from past experiences on do's or donts on putting in a faster motor? see attached photo, is this what I would be looking for?

I saw a video on how to tune up an old train, and suggestions (or links already here) would be helpful.
Thanks
Cheers.
Kevin

Apart from changing out the motor for one that runs at a higher RPM, the other thing you can do is to run the regular motor at a higher voltage. It's particularly easy to adapt a 'C'-size battery compartment to hold either two 'AA' or three 'AAA' size batteries using an ultra-cheap battery box to hold them in. A small amount of grinding away of the housing using a Dremel-type tool and a suitable bit is all that's needed to make it fit. You'll find links to videos showing this procedure if you search around a bit. Here's one.

Or you can do both. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ucwepn's Spencer that he refers to above has both an uprated motor and 3v of juice?
I'm not entirely sure what mods are on Spencer but my Gorden is 3v (x2 AA's in the tender) and fitted with a hyperdash 2 motor, he's in this video towards the end, James is fitted with a hyperdash2 motor but is powered with its original 1.5v C cell battery) The biwaka and dd51 and c12 (with the red wheels) are standard motors ( but both have different types of transmissions) and the salty is standard motor too but has the typical flat drive unit used in most trackmaster locos. There's also the White hypercity bullet train which is a standard plarail 2 speed drive unit, but 2 speeds are pretty quick right from the off! The only thing with the two speeds is that they tend to be bullet type trains and I like steamers!

LOL...speaking of the 2 speed motors, I swapped in a Power Dash Motor in one of my orange TGV's and he will not stay on the rails. I have to run him on the Lo setting as he fly's off the rails whenever he comes to a curve. I will be replacing the whole motor and housing with a new Shinkansen 2 speed when that project reaches the top of the list. Right now the top of the list is making a Monorail Station and working on video #4.

How annoying!
Hmm, thanks Tramp for letting me know. Will look into it

Yes, apparently there is one song, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs & The Foggy Mountain Boys, that is blocked from some countrys but UK is not on the list. Had you watched the video before on computer or a phone? Can you see the video in the viewer below?

Sorry, no, still doesn't work, but it worked fine on my phone before! It might just be Apple being the dictators they are! I like there products but hate how the company works as a monopoly!

I don't want to take up any more of Kmotts thread but I think it may be YouTube. Will investigate further....Back on Topic.
