Self-Contained Talk 'n Action Percy (ill-fated)

I love Cody Traverse (Aga Gai Nogai, アガ・ガイ・ノガイ) found a way to make this Talk 'n Action Percy run without the mail coach; including sound, the track sensor, everything. They did this by rearranging the speaker and PCB to make room for a small battery pack of an unspecified cell type. The first version (not pictured) somehow used bigger cell/s but ran slower, and another try used a coin cell that unfortunately exploded. The pack in these photos may have been made of N batteries. Demo of latest version

Sadly, he only lasted two months. The way it was done proved too much for the PCB, and it eventually overheated. However, they did buy a TnA Thomas and plan to do the same mod with him. Here's hoping they'll find a more harmless power method so it won't happen again.

Well, that’s ME!
Thank you for introducing my work here!!
I’m really glad there are people overseas who are interested in it a lot(I’m Japanese).
And, sorry for keeping you all waiting for the next update, but I’ll need to get a new lithium ion battery and some micro resistors for complete assembly, so it’s going to take a few weeks until Thomas is done.

Well, I never. Could be the first time a creator of a mod I've shown here signed up and commented to thank me.

Tomynewacoliver retweets photos and videos of other people's advanced models/mods like his, so that was how I found it. What cells did you use for the battery pack in the first two photos, and what voltage did it run on? The unmodified TnA engines run on 4.5V, so it probably overheated trying to run on 6V from 2x CR123As.

Good luck with the Thomas attempt, and it's great to know I made you feel honoured by bringing attention to this mod.

I used two 1.5V batteries, so I think they didn’t damage Percy’s PCB board. Probably the reason it broke was because of the motor I used. It required almost 2A to work, and therefore, the transistors couldn’t bear its high current.(This is just my estimation. I’ve just started learning about electronic DIY)
