Red bulgy error

6 Replies, 1257 Views

Hi everyone
I've been wanting to post for a while but couldn't figure out what to talk about or reply to so I've been enjoying other member's conversations on varying topics in the shadows. Then I saw an old video from Tons Of Taskmasters regarding a bulgy error that Muddy found and I have one too. I don't know when I got it and must have came from an eBay listing with other items but wanted to know since his video is old, are these things uncommon still or are they more common than what was thought of before?

You had one and didn't even know it...wonder how many others are out there that the owner doesn't know about. Such a mysterious story about this odd ball Bulgy

Wait so they really are rare? I have 3 red bulgy's and 2 green from purchasing lots in the past. They may have had boxes at the time but I don't keep the boxes usually so I can't tell what year it was packaged since all my buses say TOMY 1995. It was also stated some years ago that Terrance NIB was rare but that information was also old and don't think it's true now so I thought this was the same situation since I had one without knowing. Does anyone here have one in box? Was this even a discussion before in the forums because I was looking for the topic prior to making a thread myself.

I have yet to see one in its original packaging. If it was the Motor Road and Rail red Bulgy you wouldn't see it anyway because it's packed the other way around, with the right side showing.

Hi chrisjo
Thanks for the video and link to the old thread. Muddy has two and I found another video of someone getting one also unboxed. I guess I really don't have anything more to contribute to this topic. I was hoping to receive current information from you guys.

With all the discussion I have gleaned from this odd Bulgy and certainly not an expert on anything Thomas related, I have come up with a 'What If' possibility....what if this is just human error where there are two vats of plastic on the same production line , green/red, and someone simply hit the wrong button (red) when running the line for the green Bulgy. And if its like Chrisjo says...the error can't be seen in the boxed window the mistake was not caught for a while and many were sent out. This could explain why no one has seen them in a box....btw...kudos to Chrisjo for noticing that. So if this were the case we may not know how many actually made it out and there is still a chance that there may be some still new in the box out there. LOL...after rereading this theory, how many boxed factory errors will now pop up on the auction sites 😒

Wow that's an actual possibility maybe you guys have factory error bulgy's too (assuming you didn't open your package) I wonder if chrisjo is thinking about removing that darn sticky tape to open his up. That's seriously a good theory super, there could be more just sitting in people's homes if they never opened it... However it would be nice to know what year the possible error was done. It obviously has to be somewhere in the 2000's when green bulgy was a thing already
