I would be easy if it was a American themed layout, but I'm doing Japanese city-country layout. I need to find the Japanese style crossings and see if I can wire them up such as regular track.

I can recommend Amazon.com and eBay for some Japanese style crossings and buildings, as I've got the TOMIX N Scale on a Watch Collection on my eBay page.

try searching for tomix on hobbysearch . did you know that the advance stuff will actually run on n gauge track providing you have no points

I'm certain you could do that; I've been inspired by a TAKARA TOMY Plarail crossing that has lights and sounds, activated by a moving train. It's a bit short, so I might give a whack at creating one of an American design.

J21 and J18 looks like with some modification, would look nice scale wise to Pla Advance, but I have doubts of the train crossing the tracks.
