Reading between the lines and looking at the photo's I think the idea was to produce a better quality shell than the standard FP/Tomy ones. Lets face it with the former that would not be very difficult lol!
But I agree, what is the point, if they were made to go on HO/OO chassis then I could see it being more sensible and a potentially bigger market. But then of course you would have to targets specific donor chassis as there are so many different models out there.
Overall though I agree, what are you gaining? At the end of the day if you collect PlaRail you want original PlaRail I would say, if you want better quality or detail then you move up to Hornby or Bachmann or Tomix if in Japan or able to buy from Japan.
What I would love to see is Hornby get a licence to make them in the new TT:120 format, I reckon they would be a great hit if they could negotiate a contract that doesn't make them too darn expensive...
