dreaming of piles of track
Iirc you need 8 curve tracks to complete one full circle you are looking at 144a/b pieces.

There are many different spirals. For a start, are you planning one where:

a) you enter at the bottom and exit at the top (or vice versa)

or is it a self-contained one where:

b) you start at the bottom, go up to the top, and then spiral down to the start again?

If you're planning to use the curve ramp A/B pieces you'll only need either A or B, not both, unless you're going to have two spirals next to each other, one up and one down. Most spirals don't use these pieces at all.

Thank you Dr Chris
Looking at this video it looks like that for a 5 level spiral it would use 35 3" piers along with what looks like 2 or 3 3/4" piers. In this version they don't use the A/B rising curves but 40 curved rails. In my opinion not using the A/B risers the trains climb and descent more smoothly as the A & B curves have flats on them. I may have counted wrong so I could be corrected.

So my rudimentary math head thinks that for an 18 level spiral going up and one going down for a continuous ride would take approx 288 3" piers and 288 curves. You could save by using a Plarail U turn at the top and one at the bottom but you would have to created so king of rigging to hold it up on top.

I do remember seeing a video of a floor to ceiling tower possibly two, before, it may have been from a former member and good friend who is no longer with us and his immense collection of videos seems to be gone.

I am not an insto gammar but there may be videos here if anyone can see them. https://www.instagram.com/djxtrodinaire/

Here's a nice one using slope rails rather than curve ramps to achieve the change of levels:
