BNIB Tony Wiff engine. Worth keeping in the box ?

Hi,
I've recently purchased for my son Whiff, its brand new and in the original box.
I know its not produced anymore and before I open it and hand it to my son to play with, I was wondering if it would be worth keeping as it may be valuable in the future, not surebif its a rare engine as I don't see allot around.
Do any of you guys have any idea if its worth keeping or shall I just let my son enjoy it?

Personally I don't think many of these trains are going to make anyone rich in the future especially now a days with everyone saving things and the online auctions. I am not much of the expert on this but what some might need to know if its Trackmaster or Tomy. Me, I don't leave anything in the box as we like to play. I use to keep the boxes but there became too many and I tossed them all. All of our collection will be boxed up when we no longer play with them for my Grandson to open up in the future for his son or daughter or to sell if he so chooses. Me, Its more fun playing with them with my Grandson now than to save them so in the future you can sell them for someone else to enjoy with their son. There is no right or wrong answer to this but please wait for others to give their opinion as we have both sides of the coin here.

Its produced by Tomy, it also has a brown truck with a rubbish/trash insert and a seperat blue truck which is empty.
The box has a sticker on it saying "new".

whiff was part of the first wave of HIT era engines. there was whiff, thomas/hector and billy, i believe. very early on, there may have been some from tomy during the transition. have checked mine, and its all stamped HIT.

Since it's made by Tomy, it sounds like the TrackMaster Whiff released in the UK/Europe and Australia in 2009.

In my opinion, I suggest you could open it carefully and keep the box since those are sometimes hard to come across.

The box looks very much like the one jdogman has in the link but has Tomy all over the box.
I have taken some pictures but unsure how to put them on to show you, could you help the newbie out?

open it, play with it carefully but keep the box, it makes all the difference if you ever decide you need to sell it later on.

Thanks for the replys, I decided to take the plunge and open Whiff.
He didn't work at first but a bit of wheel turning did the trick and now he works. He will however only be played with under my supervision :-).
