In my honest opinion, while it may be disappointing to collectors, it does make it more readily available to fans of the show who want to get the pack for a reasonable price but missed out on it the first time due to either not collecting it before or just not having the chance to get it.
Fans of the show are some of if not the biggest consumers of Thomas & Friends merchandise so re-introducing a pack of a well-received special by many is a good idea.

I’ve been trying to keep quiet about what I have been seeing from Tomy (if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all), but honestly re-releasing the Original Thomas/ Black James set it the last straw!
All I have seen for months is re-hashed, re-releases, junky thrown together mish mashes of leftover stock and recycled ideas.
The Mountain set’s mountain with its panels is as cheap looking and uninspired as anything FisherPrice has ever released.
Nothing new or substantial has been released in almost a year, not a single new character, or engine.
This re-release of the OT set really bugs me and is very disappointing to see.
My only hope that it has different packaging, and that there are subtle differences to the engines themselves that will identify it as a re-release.
It’s a great set, but what is the point of having exclusive releases that are supposed to be special, when they turn around and de-value them by re-releasing them?
TOMY is sucking lately.
Play nice & have fun!!
I certainly don't disagree with what you say Muddy but...in this case...wouldn't it be Toys R Us making the call as the first set was their exclusive and now this set looks also to be a Toys R Us exclusive. Toys R Us's choice of using the term 'Limited Edition' for the first set and also this set is suspect to me. Doesn't sound limited at all now.
Yes Super I guess TrUs might be partially to blame, but they aren’t the ones producing it.
Maybe TrUs executives called up Tomy and asked “he can we get more of those sets that sold so well?”
But I would guess the idea to re-release them was first brought to them by Tomy, since Tomy has proven recently to be solely in the re-release business.
Play nice & have fun!!
I'm personally all for re-releases but they're re-releasing everyone except my man Diesel, a character that's incredibly relevant and has been incredibly relevant for the past decade.
