What paint to use for faces?

8 Replies, 4591 Views

I have many engines which I plan to restore but have face chips on them, I tried using apple barrel Dolphin Grey paint which was said to work but it turned out to be a completely different shade, I was wondering if anyone had any idea what paint you would go about using to paint over scratches on the faces of engines

I usually just go over it entirely instead with Dolphin Grey or mix a bit of white with Dolphin Grey.

@FfarquharDeveloper Good shout on using some white for it, I didn't think of that, I'll have to give it a shot, hopefully it works

the degree of the face discoloration makes it extremly hard to find the exact shade of grey or white paint.

My car was involved in a minor fender bender.  The body shop guys told me they know the shade of silver paint my car uses.  however, it will be expensive to find the exact shade of silver to match the discoloration unless I repaint the entire car.

I simply mix white with a (really) tiny amount * of black, which I find sufficient for the "vehicle face" colour in most cases.

* something like the very end of a Q-tip, if not ever so slightly bigger. If you don't repaint the entire faces, brighten or darken if necessary until you feel you can barely see the corrections.

Thank you LaG Smile
@DalaGStanator Alright, I'll give that a shot aswell as dolphin grey mixed with white to see which is more closer to the original colour
