I don't really know, Super. I just put these items in this thread because they were labeled "NEW" in that catalog...

Maybe I should just say it's the first where the light is advertised as being an LED?

However, toy trains had lights in them way before white LEDs were commercialized in the mid to late 1990's, so what technology were they?

Ahhh it says LED does it. Do you have a picture of the box or other information as I can't find that ad?

I would guess that maybe the original lights were incandescent as I believe thats what the grain of wheat, grain of rice bulbs are. Advertising this as LED could mean that there have been many complaints about a lot of previous lights that weren't very bright and LED's would could provide a brighter light. Will be interesting to see if it does.

The Odakyu PDF News Leaflet does mention the LED lights, and that this train will be the first Plarail product with such lights installed.

I'm not particularly fond of this train, but I must say they did a good job on faithful reproduction of the real train:

I am curious as to what this means if its on the Plarail model...

So the LED is just decorative? What does that mean? Emphasize the sense of speed...does that mean that the lights have motion maybe?

Could it be what looks like a light bar here?



It will be interesting to see their wiring and if its only a 1.5 volt LED.

By looking at the pictures of the new Odakyu, it seems the "light bar" in the front of the train is lighted too...

Plarail JRKYUSHU SWEET TRAIN "Aru Ressha"

All "new" releases are actually re-releases, with some changes here and there (E353 and E233 now have new special couplings, for example). Aru Ressha is quite the same as previous edition. The only thing that is different is new 1-speed-motor, I think.

Wow, I don't think they're doing much about the Plarail Thomas line anymore, could they be winding down production of Plarail Thomas items in preparation for the upcoming reboot?
