when the internet goes down...

my internet connection blew a fuse tonight, so to blow off some steam, i did some work on my wardrobe. its a double and has been housing my pixar cars collection since 07. i decided a while ago to start removing the cars [merry christmas, nephews! LOL] and move my trains down from the ceiling cavity.

anyways, to start tonight i emptied the two shelving units and moved both to the sides, leaving space in the middle. in the middle will be 2 sets of plastic drawers, packed full of trains.
the top shelf will hold plarail sets and pieces that i want to keep near by.

5 of 10 MDF trays from former collectors. the other 5 will hopefully sit on top of the drawers and hold long trains and ones i use more often.

the one dedicated shelf so far. not shown here are the monorail and ride on train. they are still out to keep them safe during the moves

the whole thing. hard to believe how full of cars this thing was just recently

will share more photos as things progress. eventually all that will be left upstairs will be track and rolling stock which arent so much affected by heat.

progress today. got the second drawer set down and all the trains contained within. next step will be bringing down boxed plarail, vintage tomy engines and anything else i feel is essential to have nearby.

this shows the clearance when the doors are fully shut.

the drawers are all in use, with the heavy ones at the bottom of course.

plarail, fisher-price trackmaster v1 and tomy thomas

straight on. ive since put the monorail time station in the gap on top of the drawers

not sure when more will get done. christmas show this week, so i will be out there most of the time

You've got them all laid out like you're looking for your weapons of choice for the right time. Big Grin Looking forward to seeing the progress.

You have got to have the biggest collection I have ever seen. I take it that since you have taken over this closet you must have moved all your clothes to the attic and spend a lot of time now in your underwear. Big Grin

Looks like quite the engineer feat, getting all the train stuff in that space. I bet there will still be quite a lot in the attic even after you finish with this project. Gets pretty hot up there in the summers, can't be any good for plastic things.

lol jdog, didnt think of it like that, but you are correct, lmao.

super, that closet hasnt had clothes in it since roughly 07. luckily, im very much a jeans and tshirt person, so can happily live out of drawers. any shirts i need to keep nice, like my club shirt, are hanging on a hook just outside the wardrobe.

there will be track, accessories and boxed trackmaster sets etc left upstairs. things im not worried about the heat affecting too much. will do a clear to make sure the engines are all removed.
several plarail tyres had perished and started to melt onto the trains underneath, so was lucky i got there before any major damage was done. im more worried about damage to motors and gearing, so everything will be tested at some stage.
