The use of Tomy wheels just shows how much the design of Trackmaster 2 rolling stock and trains can be rectified with this simple fix. It makes it look so much better.

Lol...yeah I don’t do too many modifications, and normally when I see a triangle screw I just leave it alone, so I’ve never really needed one, but under the circumstances I really needed to see if this would work.

Plus the Hook looks like it sits lower and would touch the rails. Nope...I just ran it around the layout and it ran flawlessly.

It will be a matter of time before Mattel switches to rivets to prevent us from repairing them

They'll just cut out making the trucks altogether eventually
I have a website where I have been writing about and photographing many of the sets and pieces that I find interesting.
next up how to replace the cog wheels to tomy wheel with traction tires on engines. That will be a challenge.

Actually I didn't have much trouble changing the engine wheels. Did have to take down the activation tab as Ucwepn recommends and a little filing of the black plastic chassis so the Plarail drive wheels didn't rub although it was minor.. Here is Old 21 with his black Plarail Steam engine front and rear wheels. The only Custom Modified TM II I have and the only one I will ever do.
Later today, I’ll have to rummage around and find the bits I use for triangle head screws. The first is a star or Torx bit that was recommended on this site YEARS ago while the second is an actual triangle bit. Both of these came in sets sold by Lowe’s here in the US in their Kobalt store brand tool line.
Sorry to take this so far off in the weeds but Super, what’s the story with the chrome EMD F units running in the background of your Old 21/Lexi video? I’m sure it has been discussed here but I don’t remember it now.
Ah yes...the Chrome 583. The only reason I wanted this was its resemblance to the EMD F-Unit. All the other Plarail 583's that were made didn't strike as similar to the F-Unit except this one. That reason, the coloring and rarity too.
This is probably the 'only' train that I like the wheels in a different color and will not change them like I do with other colors that are not gray or black. After saying that I must admit that my first idea was to swap out the forest green wheels with black and I had accumulated 5 sets of black ones but could not come up with drive wheels in the same mold that were black so I abandoned that idea. The forest green do look good though in their own right. I have forgotten what we have discussed about this train before. By the looks of the Limited box, its in English and released by Tomy USA. Can anyone translate what the number 2625 means? Is that the total number released? |
