Emily & Rosie Join My Engine Shed

Managed to get these second hand, but as new Bachmann HO versions of Emily and Rosie, not as detailed as the Hornby models generally are, but you can't get a Hornby Emily for less than a fortune and Rosie is simply not available in the Hornby range, so here we go;

Very nice. Do either engines have inside the cab details?
Hi Super,

Unfortunately not, Bachmann went down the route of making them durable rather than detailed and have used what looks like new tooling rather than re-use their existing loco designs modified for Thomas characters.

The plus side is they are durable and therefore should last longer without any major damage in 'small hands', but the downside is that they are very poorly detailed and look more like toys than models - you might even say closer to the PlaRail designs Smile

But with the demise of the Hornby line and the fact that Hornby have just never made some of the characters these are better than nothing.

I suppose the only problem I may have is that I now have a mixture of OO and HO versions of the various characters so size can for once be important Big Grin

Even though the Bachmann Thomas line is labeled HO scale, they actually are scaled to OO because the rolling stock in the range just uses the old Bachmann Branchline toolings. If it was truly HO scale, the locomotives would look a lot smaller next to American trains than they do. Also, there are some bachmann models that look better than the Hornby ones, Toby and Percy especially.
Modeling the LNER (and some Thomas stuff) in OO Scale.
