Cute Hornby Class 06 Diesel Loco

My latest acquisition is this lovely little class 06 diesel locomotive. Typically used as a shunter or small goods engine, sometimes in locations like ports or harbours this was quite a popular locomotive in its day.

This model is the old 'British Rail' livery from the days of railway nationalisation in the UK, this finished some 15+ years ago when British Rail was broken up and the network sold off to various franchises that mirrored those that existed prior to the original nationalisation back in the 1950's.

I love the detail Nigels and I like that diesel in general. Is there any detail on the inside of the cab? That logo design looks familiar to me.
I thought this one may appeal to you Super as it is very similar to some of the Japanese Tomy locomotives I've seen you post about in the past Smile

There is no detail as such inside the cab. However the cab is easily removable as is the upper front body for engine maintenance. As such it would be very simple to add a driver or some other potential detail without having to carry out any 'surgery' to the model.

Otherwise the detail is pretty good which in some ways is quite surprising as this is quite an old Hornby model. This one is actually a 'Made in England' model, whereas the majority (if not all) current production was moved to China some years back (at least 15 years I believe - wow where does the time go).

When they moved production to China they re-released a lot of models or re-tooled them as 'super detail', this one is not in that class, but even so I think it looks the part for a little loco (it is only about 5" long Smile)

Just out of curiosity I did a search for that model, it was actually produced in 1988 so that little loco is some 30 years old, who would believe it as it looks as good as new - its only when you have a close up photo you notice the dust, but that can soon be got rid of Smile

Would be nice to see a video of this little guy running the rails.
Very nice, looks to be the same running gear as Nellie and Polly etc steam locos 0-4-0.

Hi Ucewepn,

Indeed, a lot of the Hornby 0-4-0's use a very similar if not common set of running gear. I'll have to see if I have one similar to those you mention and compare them Smile

If I can get some track setup then I may well do something for you Super...
