Problem with steam along thomas

8 Replies, 8995 Views

My steam along Thomas Apperantly can't move on tomy track, the steam function works, but whenever I put the motor on track, it doesn't move! I've checked if the motor had hair, are sure enough, it did, however, after taking off the hair, it STILL doesn't move!

HELP! :-(

By the way here's a video showing proof it can't move.

Just going by the sound in the video it sounds like it may have a split gear

I would have to agree with Super on this one. The wheels are not moving so the gear appears to be cracked and slipping on the axle.

Any way to fix this, however?

Sure. The proper way would be to replace the gear. However in a pinch you may be able to use a bit of Super glue.

Here is a thread that may be helpful:

I have not had one of these real steam trains apart to know what it looks like inside as I haven't had one that doesn't work properly so I am not sure what the gearing looks like. The expert here would most likely be Ripley as far as the familiarity of repairing these but they can be repaired.
Thanks Super. Yeah these have the standard gear which I believe may be a 4mm but would have to check. I have several to be repaired, probably 6 and most need gear replacement. With moving soon though most things are boxed up.
