You've got the wrong person to help you with keeping a layout relative to the series as I don't know much about the Thomas series or the trains. But you came to the right place as there are many here that can help with their opinions. Hope you will share with us some pictures as you build your layout.

I would think that one means Trackmaster Revolution is less limited, since you can now build things steeper, more dangerous, more exciting, more like a roller coaster, and less like a real railway. Although the latter could probably be accomplished from what I've heard about the many different sizes of straight and curved track.

Hear hear, I'm not a fan of the engines or the fact the engines don't free roll, I don't like how the plastic feels or how the engines struggle to grip with standard tyres when used on blue track. But their quietness is (imo) is their best feature, there are some Trackmaster 1 flat drives that we just do not use due to how loud they sound!

That would be exactly why it would be more limited in my book. The only thing to do is build roller coasters and not railways.
yes super. u r correct! again ONE has to separate collector vs fan
no matter what. there has to be a give and take.
does ONE want elegant trains?- (nothing wrong with this mind you)
or does want elaborate train sets.
Oh, my mistake, I am not up to what the series is doing. So these sets are copying feats that the trains are doing in the actual series or movies?

to some... extent, yes.
however, i do not follow the series tht closely.
my gut says yes.
solely based on the editions made possible to the public.

i mean, seriously, how many trains and/or sets
have been tied to a single theme???
