I wanna know if you guys think these would look decent in front of James before I cut it up and stick it on.

Kind of hard to get an idea without seeing it. Do you have some tacky clay or double sided tape to place the wheel where you think it will go and take a picture of James right side up?

I can't fit the wheels on without cutting them first, since there's a screw and that top half in the way, but I'll try and make a half-decent paint.net edit.
EDIT: Photoshopping in paint.net turned out to be pretty wonky, I'll just try and take a better picture later.

Where did these faux middle wheels come from? Sorry, but I don't think he will look very good with that. If anything, you could use another set of faux wheels and stick them on the sides.

They're from the Trackmaster Diesel.

you should test the clearance issue. You should use crazy glue or something like that if you want the extra wheels to be permanent on the engine.

What do you mean by clearance exactly? If I do go through with this, I'll use blutack for a year or so at first just in case I end up disliking it later.

The same reason as to why Toby, Mavis and Flora's cowcatchers and sideplates do not cover their wheels, and why several engines have their faux wheels floating above the rails. If you have slopes or other "irregular" track pieces, you should check to see if James would not struggle running over them with the "leading axle". Hope this clears that up (no pun intended).

Oh, there won't be an axle. The wheels would be closer to the bottom of the running board, and wouldn't actually be near the track. It'd look very strange to have half a wheel floating there

By "leading axle", I meant the faux middle wheels you're using for this mod, which are a fake axle.
