Other items I picked up from Japan online auctions

10 Replies, 10330 Views

As mentioned in another thread I recently won an auction and got a front hook splatter and dodge set. Here are some other items that were in the lots I won.

- 3 engines and 2 cars (which I am told were event exclusives). These were pretty cheap so I picked them up. I like the look as they are different, so I may try and get some others. If anyone has more info on these please let me know. Or if there is a listing of them and what they came with that would be nice.

This I think was from a set. I looked a little online and saw a posting on sunhuntin's site for this one. I know it is not complete, but still a nice addition. And an "Angry" face Thomas which I did not have.

Some other items not pictured:
- TnA Thomas.
- TnA James.
- a few other misc. rolling stock.
Oh, Please , never stop buying and posting here your purchased treasures. I appreciate it so much as I have emptied out my account for the Japan Auctions and don't even browse the listings any more as there isn't anything I want. I didn't cancel the account of course. Big Grin

Super you'll soon be hearing of my foray into the Alice in Wonderland experience of the Japanese auction scene. As you know I went seeking some more of the old Takara PlaRail engines, well not only did i find some more, but managed to win most of them too! Smile

Of course the pain of the shipping and (probably) customs is still to come, but at the prices I won them at I think I can accept that. For example today one of my wins was a job lot of 14 x Takara trains, 13 of them 3 car sets, 1 a 6 car set from what I could see in the photo for the princely sum of 3200 yen (+ fees of course).

You'll be suprised how wide the Takara range has turned out to be, of course there are plenty of different bullet trains, but there are also quite a few suburban types, some goods trains (several EF's are in my coming wins) and even a few steam loco's. Exciting times!!! Big Grin

Here's some pics of the batch I've just won;

Wow, who would have thought there were so many Nigels. Glad to see they also have freight cars and isn't that a white DD51 Diesel I see facing the other way? Keep them all coming so I can enjoy you all opening your great packages. I am missing the big cardboard boxes showing up on my doorstep.
I see a strange tanker and brown goods van with odd couplings. What are they, and where are they from?
nice stuff, rip! i just love the event exclusives, especially the colorful one with all the plakids on it. congrats on the angry thomas, too. the tanker should have a sticker face on one end.

nigels... what a haul! cant wait to see more when that lot arrives! i really like the look of the eggshell blue set

I'll even find appropriate places to construct public layouts, such as a patriotic one with custom Israel Railways trains, and a few recreations of real stations, but I digress.

Dala,

These ones I've been winning are not compatible with Tomy, they are PlaRail trains made by Takara independently before they merged with Tomy to become Tomy Takara around 2002. The main differences are they are physically smalller, size-wise somewhere between the standard Tomy PlaRail and PlaRail Advance.

The trains are also quite interesting in terms of construction, in a typical 3 car set you get the motor and a micro-switch (activated by pressing the rear top of the car) in the leading car, and the batteries (2 x AAA) in the middle car with a hard on/off switch on the underside. These two are connected permanently, a bit like some of the Tomy loco's with the battery in the tender. The trailing car is just that.

The couplings are quite curious, but work very well, basically they are like a D shape with a small gap in the straight edge. These interlock with each other with a small force and then they rotate in their sockets, quite a nice way of connecting the cars together.

I picked up a job lot of brand new unused trains/track/accessories last year and is what somehow led me here when I was trying to google exactly what they were as I originally thought they were standard Tomy PlaRail. Now I've been exploring the world of Japanese auctions to supplement my initial colection and found the range to be way bigger than I anticipated or hoped for Big Grin

Yes, I believe you are right about the DD51, I'll be curious to see it myself once i get my grubby little hands on it. I've also just won another 'job lot' consisting of a bunch of track and only about 10 trains in that, but again some different to the ones in this batch.

I will also end up with several EF type disesels with different types of goods wagons so things are looking good Big Grin

Thought you already had them. I wnt to see that DD51 up close also. I believe the EF units are electric powered and not diesels. At least that is what I have learned from members here at BPT's although I am not positive there aren't any hybrids. EF = Electric Freight?
