The Great Race stuff

So as some of you may or may not know, the 2016 Thomas movie is called "The Great Race." It's going to involve a race between 12 international engines. Since Toy Fair is this weekend, Mattel has unveiled some new items to go with the movie like they do every year. Here we have an official release of Flying Scotsman, who is apparently going to be in the film (if you guys recall, he's Gordon's brother and interacts with him in the Railway Series but is an unseen visitor in the show, with only his tenders sticking out of a shed due to budget limitations. Since CGI has no limitations, he will be making his full TV debut in this movie and it appears he will interact with his brother Gordon; I wonder how they'll address them knowing each other since they already know each other in the Railway Series but Gordon didn't recognize him in the TV adaptation. I think he looks good and I'm glad they made a new mold for him instead of just reusing Gordon. Not too keen on the suggestive-looking steam though...

Next is Thomas' Sky-High Bridge Jump. This is freaking huge; it's 3 feet tall and 8 feet long. Basically, the idea is that Harold lifts Thomas over the Vicarstown Bridge, which has (in the context of the movie) been lifted up (it's basically a drawbridge if you're not familiar with it). Thomas flies over the "water" and lands on the mainland, and then returns. I like this set, though I doubt anyone else will.

So what do you guys think? I personally think these look nice, but I highly doubt the movie itself will be as good as Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure was.
that big set looks like its been designed purely to sell more thomas'. i cant imagine one surviving too many of those landings!
happy to see the flying scotsman... wish they had done him justice.

not to derail your thread, but i wish mattel/fisher-price would go back to making train layout sets, not car stunt tracks.

Let's be honest... Mattel will definitely not be changing their ways any time soon. They only care about making kids have their parents buy stuff. I'm sure however, that the only real reason they made Flying Scotsman NOT a repaint of Gordon, is to make him look more accurate to his new appearance, and so parents wouldn't think it's just a stupid green Gordon.

Flying Scotsman used the Gordon mold with a new smokebox stuck on and a new second tender only

I knew things like this were coming lol stunt trains! easy pass for me, looks difficult to setup correctly and takes up too much space. So Thomas (or any TM2 engine for that matter) cannot freeroll so they will skid/slide down the hill and jump losing most of it's momentum on the way hence the height it is...

Regarding the Flying Scotsman, the tenders are actually both new, and the body shell is actually mostly new; the firebox is different and there's a different dome. I think the running board is the same though
i wonder how many will see this set, see the flying scotsman's name and put together the two for the wrong reasons?

Update... just saw a demo video from NYTF. Apparently Thomas sits on a platform that slides down the hill and (I'm assuming) a motor similar to Hot Wheels hidden behind the bridge launches him into the shed on the mainland. Personally I don't mind the whole stunt train thing *cue incoming flaming*, aside from the fact that the gimmicky pieces usually take up both sides of a loop, and therefore you can't do much besides make a half circle. I also don't like that every single flagship set has only been designed to where the engines can only haul one truck or their tender (or in this set's case, nothing).

Anyway, I can post a link to the video here if anyone's interested. It doesn't show the full run, just the drop + leap

Jdogman posted a short video from the New York Toy Fair in the Revolution thread, is this the same one you saw?

I am curious, does one have to manually load Thomas at the top of the jump every time or will he climb to the top by himself? If you have to set him manually then...Whaaat......

Taking a look at what we've seen of this set so far closer, my guess is that the yellow platform at the end of the track will stop Thomas and lift him up, then release him at the top.
Although, looking again, it's still very possible that the set is either still going through prototypes or I'm completely wrong, as it looks like the yellow platform isn't in the set shown in the video on Twitter.
